Today I learnt how to drive a steam train!

Well, I started to, anyway. I'll be volunteering at least one Sunday each month during the summer months, and should be fully trained and allowed to drive solo after about 18 months. I'm VERY excited :)

This is so brilliant. Take pictures every time! I used to live in Swindon, they have a good train museum. Trains are great.

I don't know what if you'll have a car when you are in the bay area but if you do there are some lovely steam trains out in Tilden park.

Do you go through the usual process of learning how to clean its 80000 brass bits before learning how to be a fireman [1] before...

[1] mind you, I guess on the KBSM line anticipating the need for steam is not so tricky.
